I am a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the State of Pennsylvania.
Services that I provide include individual and couples therapy;
additionally, I conduct supervision and training as well as provide
consultations. My specialty is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy
(ISTDP); to learn more about ISTDP see the ‘Links &
Resources’ tab. I am also trained in Structural / Systems Therapy
which is integrated into my couples work.
My graduate school education was
at the Virginia Consortium; this is a fully-accredited joint Doctoral
Program that was provided by: The College of William & Mary; Eastern
Virginia Medical School; Norfolk State University; and, Old Dominion
University. Here I earned a Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) which is a
clinically focused degree. During graduate school, I also published and
conducted research in couples therapy and the importance of the therapeutic
alliance / relationship as well as into substance abuse issues. This
acclaimed doctoral program, with its four schools, was a true wealth in
learning opportunities. I was able to get both a broad exposure to Clinical
Psychology as well as specialized training -- for me this was in
psychodynamic / psychoanalytic and couples therapy.
My internship was at the
University of Pennsylvania Health System (Pennsylvania Hospital). During
this time I also completed a fellowship with Psychoanalytic Center of
Philadelphia in psychoanalytic therapy. Afterwards I went on to a
fully-accredited post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California,
Los Angeles. There I worked with individuals who suffered from chronic
mental illness (referred to as the Severely & Persistently Mentally Ill;
SPMI).
Since my post-doctoral fellowship I have done extensive training in
ISTDP including completing a training program at the Washington School of
Psychiatry and then training directly with Dr. Davanloo, the founder and
developer of ISTDP.
In addition to working with my patients, I teach health
care students as well as licensed clinicians. Also, I have presented at
National and International conferences. At local hospitals and universities,
I have provided education and training for students and staff. My commitment
to learning never ceases and I am always collaborating with colleagues to
further my own understanding as well as to enhance and refine my clinical
work.
